While there were workarounds to using your Sony camera as a webcam out there on the Internet, we now have an official solution.  Yesterday, Sony dropped their free Imaging Edge Webcam software to take on the task of replacing your webcam.

The asterisk of it all is that the software is only available for Windows though.  Don’t worry too much as Sony is working on a Mac version of the app in the near future.  This app will work w/ 35 of their cameras including the a9 II, a9, a7R IV, a7R III, a7R II, a7S II, a7S, a7 III, a7 II, a6600, a6400, a6100, RX100 VII, RX100 VI, RX0 II, RX0, and the new a7S III to name a few.

All you need to do is make sure that your camera firmware is up to date and using a Windows 10 64-bit CPU.  The app will offer a 16:9 aspect ratio no matter what setting you choose.  This works out great as many webcams have been sold out online for months now since the pandemic.  This makes for a better solution that will give you better quality anyways.  Hit the link below to grab the app and to get started.
