Last but not least, we got the final announcement: the new 5G Google phones for 2020 w/ the Pixel 4a 5G & the Pixel 5. Let’s talk about what they have to offer, officially, shall we?
Both offer a Snapdragon 765G w/ 5G support, 128GB of non-expandable storage, rear fingerprint reader, USB-C, stereo speakers, running Android 11, a f/2.0 8MP hole punch selfie camera, and a dual camera setup on rear consisting of a f/1.7 12.2MP main sensor w/ OIS + EIS and a f/2.2 16MP wide angle sensors.
The 4a 5G will have a 6.2inch AMOLED 1080p display w/ 6GB of RAM, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a 3800 mAh battery w/ 18W fast charging. While the Pixel 5 will have a 6inch AMOLED 1080p display + 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, IP68 dust/water-resistant body, and a 4000 mAh battery w/ 18W fast charging, wireless charging, & reverse wireless charging.
With Google's Pixel phones, hardware is only half the story.
- So on the software side of things, you got a new Hold for Me option within Duplex/Call Screen that utilizes Google Assistant to put someone on hold & keeps the entire call private to you.
- The Recorder app now allows you to share your favorite audio moments by highlighting a sentence or paragraph by editing. All while still not needing to be online.
- Google’s new Extreme Battery Saver is said to give the new Pixels up to 48 hour battery life. Once 5G goes live everywhere, this will definitely come in handy.
- New Portrait Light allows you to add extra lighting to your Portrait shots in post.
- Night Sight now comes to Portrait Mode to now allow you to blur the background in Portrait shots w/ low-light.
- And last but not least, Cinematic Pan is a new feature that gets added to their video abilities getting upgraded to 4K@60fps. Hopefully this means they improved their video capabilities or at least start to.
So w/ this, Google gives you more services for you to try out when you buy one of these 5G Pixels. You’ll get Stadia and YouTube Premium trial for 3 months, 100 GB of storage with Google One for 3 months and Google Play Pass and Gold/Silver Status on Play Points.
The $500 Pixel 4a 5G arrives sometime in November while the $700 Pixel 5 arrives on October 29th here in the US as well as other countries.
