Today, Apple did a quick announcement this morning to reveal something that has been long-rumored: the AirPods Max headphones. In true Apple fashion, they’re premium cans so they’re charging premium pricing for them. The price tag is $549 to be exact.
So Apple is giving you the best of their audio w/ all of the dope features like transparency mode, spatial audio, adaptive EQ, & audio sharing. They offer 40mm drivers powered by a dual neodymium ring magnet motor w/ a digital crown from the Apple Watch to control volume, play/pause/skip media, answer/end calls, & access Siri. You also have smart sensors on board to automatically play/pause media when you take them on/off as well.
They offer a breathable knit mesh canopy across the headband to reduce pressure on your head. There’s a stainless steel headband frame w/ telescoping headband arms to adjust to your head & stay in place. All of this w/ memory foam cushioning for the earcups.
With the kind of $ they’re asking for, they do have noise-canceling abilities on board. You got 9 mics in total w/ 8 handling the ANC and 3 handling the voice calls. (using 2 mics from ANC). You even have their beamforming mics to handle voice calls.
You get a 20-hour battery life but it does charge via Lightning not USB-C for some reason. You do have fast-charging on board to give you 90 minutes of juice in a 5-minute charge. No word on how long it will take to fully charge. It does have a weird-looking smart case that puts them in low-power mode but no real hardcover case which is a shock for a pair of cans in this price range.
The AirPods Max is due out on December 15th as it will arrive in Space Gray, Silver, Sky Blue, Green, & Pink color options. I think the pricing is a bit nuts but the headphones themselves look nice and if they sound anything like their AirPods Pro, they could be an amazing pair of cans.
