And last but not least, Samsung made their rumored Tile competitor official w/ the new Galaxy SmartTag.  This is a small Bluetooth Low Energy-powered tag to track + keep up w/ your items as well as finding them if lost.

It pairs via Samsung’s SmartThings app that can give you its location.  It has a proximity sensor to show if you are within range of the Tag as well as it can be sound off a chime to be found.   Strangely enough, the SmartTags will only work w/ Samsung Galaxy devices.  So don’t expect it to work w/ a Pixel, OnePlus, or an iPhone.

Samsung didn’t put the UWB (Ultra Wideband) feature on this one despite putting it within its smartphones.  FYI: UWB is used to help objects locate each other via data.  This would give you another helpful way to locate missing items.  Samsung is coming w/ a UWB version called Tag+ coming later this year for $40.

I am curious to see how Apple & Tile respond to this news.  The Galaxy SmartTag is due out later this month on January 29th for $30.  If you pre-order a Galaxy S21, you can get it for free.
