So in an interesting move from Google, they’re bringing an important health tracking tool to their Google Fit app.  They’ve added the ability to measure your heart rate + respiratory rate via the cameras on the Pixel.

So you can pull this off by diving into the Google Fit app and placing your finger over your phone’s rear camera.  The system will seek for subtle changes in the color of your finger for your heart-rate and will use your respiratory rate, it will use your front-facing camera to analyze chest movements as you breathe normally.  Google states that these features are meant for a complete medical diagnosis but if you don’t have anything else, this will work.

So Pixel 5 will be the only Pixel to get these features at launch but will expand to other device at some point and time.  Now Google isn’t the 1st to do this move.  Samsung had this feature on older Galaxy smartphones like the Galaxy S10 but removed it on other devices like the S10E & S20.
