Earlier this morning, Google unveiled an updated version of their smaller 7inch Nest Hub. Although it might look identical to the original model, the new tricks & underneath the surface. It still offers a 7inch LCD display & no camera – w/ the power of Google Assistant.
It does beef up its audio output a bit by offering 50% more bass than the original Nest Hub. There’s also a dedicated machine learning chip from the other Nest devices to execute your Assistant commands in an instant. They did add the Motion Sense (Soli low-energy radar) technology from the Pixel 4 smartphones. This new feature will bring forth new tricks like quick gestures for navigation & sleep tracking via their new Sleep Sensing feature.
So the sleep tracking works like this, it will use its Motion Sense technology as well as its light & temperature sensors to sense you nearby to check your breathing + movement – including coughing & snoring as well throughout the night. It will pickup motion to record restless periods w/ respiratory rate & then give you a recap of your rest. It even shows the adjustments you can make to get even better rest at night.
Your sleep tracking info will be saved locally on the Nest Hub & can be synced to your Google Fit account. But if you’re not into that, you can turn the feature off entirely. The feature will be a free preview until next year as afterwards, I assume you’ll have to pay for it.
You will have 4 different color options to choose from like Chalk, Charcoal, Mist, & Sand. The 2nd-gen Nest Hub will cost you $100 & pre-orders have been live since earlier today in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, & Australia.
