In the wee hours earlier this morning, OnePlus announced that their next-gen smartphones are coming. More specifically, they will be unveiled on March 23rd @10AM EST. It will also arrive w/ a previously-leaked Hasselblad partnership as well to help beef up their camera game.
They let us know a few things ahead of the announcement to get folks hyped about their new shooters. The new OnePlus 9 Series will make use of Sony’s new IMX789 sensor as well as offer 12-bit RAW photos, better HDR video, 4K@120fps + 8K@30fps. Hopefully OnePlus doesn’t skimp out on the computational part of their post-processing for photos/videos. I hope they know that hardware is only half of the battle.
This OnePlus & Hasselblad partnership is a 3-year $150 million investment in their cameras to see if they can catch up to the competition. This will bring a new Hasselblad Pro Mode that will allow you to adjust ISO, focus, exposure times, white balance and more. As well as a Natural Color Calibration w/ Hasselblad that will attempt to offer more accurate + natural-looking colors for photos.
As far as the rest of the phones, we’ll have to wait a few weeks to see. Rumors have the OnePlus 9 Pro to have a curved 6.7inch QHD 120Hz display, running the latest Snapdragon 888 CPU, up to 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a battery that offers 45W wireless fast-charging – all within a metal + glass build.
Any of this get you excited about the upcoming OnePlus 9 Series or do you need to hear more?
