Last week, we got word of a new portable Sonos speaker courtesy of the folks over at The Verge.  Over the weekend, we got a little more details on the Roam speaker.  So much so that if we don’t get the rumored headphones, there won’t be much to reveal at Tuesday’s event.

It will tout an IP67 dust/water-resistant body that can handle being submerged in 3.3ft of liquid for up to 30 minutes.  It will include automatic Trueplay audio tuning using its mics to perfect its performance based on its surroundings.  Unlike the Sonos Move, it will be able to use Bluetooth for your entire Sonos system rather than having to choose between that & Wi-Fi.

Also new is their new Sound Swap feature that will allow you pass off music from the Roam to another Sonos speaker as this will be an Roam exclusive.  And last but not least, you won’t be able to use it as a surround speaker for the Sonos Arc or the Beam – just like on the Move.

So what we know about the Roam already is that it will be cost $169 offering a 6.5inch body, 10-hour battery life, will use the Sonos S2 platform, support both Bluetooth + Wi-Fi, and Alexa + Google Assistant support – coming in April.  As we now know a little more about it.  All of this makes the Sonos Roam quite the UE Boom competitor.  Now all we need to is to see what their Sonos headphones will look like & work with.

Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait & find out.
