Remember the modular Project Ara which was gonna allow you to swap out parts of your smartphone w/ ease? Well, we never got it or anything remotely close to it. Now imagine you can do that w/ a laptop? Well, you soon will be able to w/ the upcoming modular Framework laptop.
The Framework laptop offers a 13.5inch display w/ 2256 x 1504 resolution, a 1080p 60fps webcam, a 55Wh battery – all within a 2.87lb aluminum chassis. The ports will allow you up to 4 ports to choose from w/ USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, & a microSD slot. They will allow you to swap out configurations within their DIY model or buy your laptop in 3 different configurations.
The DIY Edition starts at $749 but you have to offer up your own RAM/SSD/charging brick/Wi-Fi card while the other base option starting at $999. The base model offers a Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, & 256GB NVMe SSD. While the Performance model (starting at $1,399) can cap out w/ a Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, & 512GB NVMe SSD. And last but not least is their Professional model (starting at $1,999) that gives you Core i7 CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, & running Windows 10 Pro.
For those of you interested, you can now pre-order now w/ a $100 deposit here in the US w/ the 1st set of laptops coming at the end of July.
