Yup, you read the headline right. Apple’s ProRes 4K video will take up a ton of space. Not sure why this feature along w/ SharePlay wasn’t ready at launch but will be accessed via a later update.
This bit of news comes from Ray Wong over at Input in the form of a tweet. Ergo, being the reason why it won’t work on 128GB 13 Pro models & regulated to only 1080p @30fps. This might be the reason why Apple never delved deeper into the reason why during the keynote.
FYI, 1 minute of ProRes Video shot on iPhone 13 Pros clocks in at 6GB

Use that information however you want
This might be a small price to pay for the better low-light and Cinematic Video features on the Pro models. Or this might be a bad case of Lightning port needing to go. Trying to transfer 4K ProRes video off of the new iPhones can take long time at a measly 480Mbps. I’d imagine AirDrop would be even slower.
Whatever the case, something worth noting for those of you w/ plans to utilize ProRes on the Pro models. You’re definitely gonna have some hurdles to go up against to fully utilize and transfer the footage.
