This morning, DJI put GoPro on notice (sort of) w/ their new action camera: the DJI Action 2. This isn’t just another GoPro copy but a new take on an action camera. The Action 2 is a great upgrade & almost nothing like the Osmo Action line.
So the Action 2 is a small camera module that is modular + magnetic in design. It has an f/2.8 12MP sensor w/ 155-degree field of view capable of up to 4K @120fps and 1080p @240fps. DJI equipped this w/ electric stabilization, horizon-leveling, color temperature sensor, & ability to livestream or use as a webcam. It has a 1.7inch OLED touchscreen covered in Gorilla Glass, 32GB of storage expandable via microSD up to 256GB and by utilizing its built-in magnets, you’ll be able wear it as a necklace, add other attachments like another touchscreen, an extra battery, mics, tripods, & more.
The Action 2 power bundle will cost $399 as it will include the camera, battery (power module) that will give you 180 minutes of record time + an extra microSD slot, a mount, and a lanyard. They have tons of accessories for this like a $79 Macro Lens attachment, a $39 floating handle, a $39 magnetic ball-joint adapter, and a $75 3-in-1 Selfie Stick/Mini-Tripod/Remote Control to name a few.
It is available to pre-order today however DJI won’t sell the camera module by itself – at least not at launch. It won’t be a long wait as it will go on sale next week.
