Late last night, Sony announced their new smartphone but this time focusing more so on camera supremacy (pun intended).  Introducing the Xperia Pro-I where Sony put their same 1inch sensor from the RX100 MK IV inside of a 5G smartphone.

So let start backwards & talk about the shooters on board.  That’s right plural as it may look like only one but there are several.  You got 3 12MP sensors on the rear w/ the standard main, ultrawide & telephoto setup.  The main is a 24mm dual aperture f/2.0 + f/4.4 to create a more authentic bokeh effect instead of doing it digitally.  The ultrawide has a f/2.2 aperture, the telephoto has a f/2.4 aperture, & an f/2.0 8MP selfie camera in front.

You also have the same BIONZ X imaging processor from their A9 high-end mirrorless camera which will allow you to pull off 20fps photos, fast auto focus w/ real-time eye-tracking for humans + animals in both photo/video, and can record 4K@120fps w/o any compression.

As far as the actual phone itself, it does have top-shelf specs powering this thing as well.  You got a 6.5inch 120Hz 21:9 aspect ratio OLED display w/ 3840 x 1644 resolution, Snapdragon 888 CPU, sub-6GHz 5G support, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 4500 mAh battery w/ 30W fast charging.

Now all of this ain’t cheap w/ a $1,800 price tag as mentioned within the headline.  You can max out an iPhone 13 Pro Max for less or grab one of Sony’s mirrorless shooters for the same or a little less.  So keep that in mind incase you plan on picking this one up.  It will go on sale in December w/ pre-orders kicking off this week on the 28th@10AM EST.
