Over the weekend, we got some big news on Google’s forthcoming budget smartphone: the Pixel 6a.  More specifically, what it will look like and no it won’t resemble the previous A-line smartphones.

The new images arrive courtesy of online leaker OnLeaks as they’re 3D renderings of what to expect.  The new 6a will more or less be a smaller version of the Pixel 6 at a smaller 6.2inch size w/hole punch selfie camera, same camera bar w/ 2 lenses + a flash, no rear fingerprint sensor as its most likely an in-display one, a USB-C port but no headphone jack – a 1st for Google A-line phones.

Having recently reviewed the Pixel 6 Pro, I hope they can get a handle on the fingerprint reader & standby battery life as those are the only 2 issues preventing it from being great.  Especially since the Pixel A-series usually offers better batteries than their flagships.

The 6a offering a smaller 6.2inch over the 6.4inch regular 6 and 6.7inch 6 Pro size could be a huge sweet spot for those seeking a smaller Pixel 6 as well.  The Pixel A-line usually launches in the summer ahead of the newest flagship but since we’re seeing leaks on this one already, we can anticipate a sooner arrival maybe around CES or shortly afterwards.

If they can fix those issues, this smaller Pixel 6 will be a perfect trifecta for Google on the smartphone side of things.  Now would you be interested in a 6.2inch version of the Pixel 6?
