Sounds like Sony is finally looking to come up w/ their own version of Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service.  This bit of news is coming from the folks over at Bloomberg.  Now this won’t be Sony’s 3rd-subscription service as they already have PlayStation Now & PlayStation Plus.  Sony would merge them and phase out their PlayStation Now service.

This new service is currently codenamed ‘Spartacus’ as it is said to offer 3 tiers.  One would be similar to the current PS Plus perks, another would add a catalog of PS4 + PS5, and the final tier would add extended demos, game streaming, and a library of PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP titles.  This new service is said to arrive sometime in Spring 2022 for both the PS4 + PS5.

The more interesting thing is that Sony’s service might run on Microsoft’s Azure platform which is the same as Xbox Game Pass.  This is due to a deal signed back in 2019.   No word on any alleged pricing as of yet either.  However, Sony may not offer 1st-party titles like Microsoft does – at least at launch anyways.

So is this the move PlayStation fans have been waiting for?  Or do you need to see how it is executed 1st?  We’ll see if this will help me turn on my PS5 again.
