So earlier this afternoon, Sony just announced that their acquiring Bungie for $3.6 billion.  This is the developer behind the Destiny & Halo franchises which is right off of the back of Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard a few weeks back.

Sony will take advantage of Bungie’s big & highly engaged communities and potential future franchises.  Now similar to the Microsoft deal, Bungie will continue to be a multiplatform & independent studio/publisher but will be apart of Sony’s PlayStation Studios developers.  So what does this mean for Destiny 2 players?  Nothing – for now anyways.

Destiny 2 will remain as it is as one community for multi-platforms.   So this means Cross Play will remain as well.  Nothing will change w/ the arrival of The Witch Queen coming on February 22 of this year on the platform of your choice. And will stay like this, all the way through The Final Shape in 2024.

Now when Destiny 3 rolls around that could change where PlayStation might gain some exclusive content of sorts.  But I’m guessing a slightly worst case scenario.  Worst case would be the game itself becoming a PS exclusive.

Taking this deal while remaining independent will be a great look for Bungie’s 900 employees.  What’re your thoughts on this particular gaming acquisition?  And thoughts on whether or not we will see more or not?
