Yesterday, Sony unveiled something new that they’ve been working on: an updated G Master lens. More specifically, a brand new FE f/2.8 24-70mm GM II lens for the Sony E-Mount. Now made to be lighter & smaller than previous G Master lenses. So lets break down all that comes along w/ it.
We got 5 aspherical elements w/ 2 high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements, 2 ED (extra-low dispersion), 2 Super ED glass elements. You’ll be able to pull off amazing bokeh within the zoom range thanks to its new 11-blade aperture unit. This lens also gives you a minimum focusing distance of 8.25inches @24mm and 12inches @70mm, BTW. All while weighing in at only 24.6oz which is 7oz less than the previous model.
This new 24-70mm GM II grants you superb auto focus thanks to its 4 Sony XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors to support up to 30fps continuous shooting & 4K@120fps video w/ autofocus. You even get 2x better AF tracking than the previous model as well. There’s zoom smoothness as you can adjust the zoom ring from Tight or Smooth, a new aperture ring w/ click on/off + iris lock switch, 2 customizable focus hold buttons, and an updated dust/moisture resistant design for more outdoor use within the elements.
Sony’s new glass will be out sometime in June for $2,300. So who’s looking to update their glass for their photo/video needs for the summer?
