Earlier this morning, Xbox dropped some big news on us. They revealed their Xbox TV app that’s making its way to those of you who own the latest 2022 Samsung TVs. Why is that a big deal you may ask?
The app will allow you to play Xbox games w/o the need of an actual Xbox console. This will do this via game-streaming by the way of a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The game streaming process works via the cloud thanks to custom hardware from the Xbox Series X and Samsung’s Gaming Hub UI.
You’ll be able to login on your Microsoft account on the app and start streaming like you would on a browser through Xbox Cloud Gaming. And through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll have access to over 100 games w/ Fortnite being completely free whether you are a Game Pass subscriber or not.
The Microsoft & Samsung partnership allows for support for more than just Xbox controller BTW. It will support all flavors of Xbox controllers as well as Sony PS5 DualSense and various 3rd-party Bluetooth controllers as well. And Samsung’s Gaming Hub will support other gaming platforms as well like Stadia, NVIDIA’s GeForce Now, & Utomik.
The Xbox TV app will be available later this month on the 30th in 27 countries at launch. Despite having a 4K TV, you won’t be able to enjoy game streaming in 4K as it will be limited to 1080p @60fps. Now for those of you who want ot see if you TV made the cut, here you go. You will need one of 2022 Samsung Smart TVs including Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, QLEDs or 2022 Smart Monitor Series to take advantage of this.
Xbox really out making TVs the future of cloud gaming. Dope stuff.
