The reason we haven’t mentioned the iPhone 17 Plus model is that it no longer exists. Apple is doing something different and going slim. Meet the iPhone 17 Air, which measures in at only 5.6mm thick, and is Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever. Yup, thin is in again as Apple equipped it with a titanium frame, an IP68 body, and Wi-Fi 7 support. Think of a slimmer version of the recently released iPhone 16e but with Pro internals.

Part 16e, Part Pro, All Slim.

The iPhone 17 Air has a 6.5-inch 120Hz ProMotion OLED display with Always-On Display, and is equipped with an A19 Pro processor. Apple quotes it as having an ‘all-day battery life’, but being so thin, I’m not convinced and will need to see it to believe it. The Air is also Apple’s in-house C1X 5G modem, which claims to be 2x faster and consume less energy than C1 on the 16e.

Apple equipped the Air with a rear-facing 48MP Fusion camera with a 12MP telephoto lens, while it adds a slimmer camera bar like the iPhone 17 Pro models. It gets a Pro-level front camera, as it has an 18MP Center Stage selfie camera with stabilization and supports a new dual capture feature, which uses both the front and rear cameras at the same time—a feature Samsung has had for years now.

The 6.5-inch iPhone 17 Air will start at $1,000 for the 256GB option and will arrive in Space Black, Sky Blue, Light Gold, and Cloud White. Pre-orders begin on September 12th and go on sale on September 19th.
