It’s been a little bit since we’ve heard any news about Google’s Android XR platform, which is AR/VR tech that mirrors Apple’s Vision Pro. Since we’re overdue, let’s add some new news to the mix. The folks over at Android Headlines got a hold of info on Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset with an early look at its specs.
The Android-based headset is said to offer a 4K micro-OLED display with 4,032ppi or pixels per inch. To compare, it would be higher than Apple’s Vision Pro at 3,386ppi. No surprise, as Samsung needs no help in crafting amazing screens. Powering the headset would be a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor, which supports 4.3K resolution at 90fps per eye.
It’s also rumored to provide multiple sensors on the front and inside so users could control it with their hands, eyes, and voice. On the right side of the device reveals a trackpad for finger controls is revealed with a power button on the top right, and volume buttons on the top left. The headset is said to weigh 19.2 ounces and would offer up to a 2.5-hour battery life with its detachable battery pack.
On the software side of things, Android Headlines provided screenshots, which demonstrate Samsung UI added to the headset’s interface on top of Android. The usual suspects of Google Maps, Google Photos, Chrome, and Samsung’s Internet apps, as well as YouTube and Netflix.
The Galaxy XR is rumored to have a $1,800 price tag. However, we’re expecting Samsung to announce its XR headset sometime this month.
