Yup, when it rains, it pours, apparently. This morning, via a blog post, Sony announced a price hike on its PlayStation hardware. The PS5 consoles get an increase of $100 to $150 as the PS Portal is set to go up by $50.
Beginning on April 2, the new pricing is as follows:
U.S.
- PS5 – $649.99
- PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99
- PS5 Pro – $899.99
U.K.
- PS5 – £569.99
- PS5 Digital Edition – £519.99
- PS5 Pro – £789.99
Europe
- PS5 – €649.99
- PS5 Digital Edition – €599.99
- PS5 Pro – €899.99
Japan
- PS5 – ¥97,980
- PS5 Digital Edition – ¥89,980
- PS5 Pro – ¥137,980
PS Portal
- U.S. – $249.99
- U.K. – £219.99
- Europe – €249.99
- Japan – ¥39,980
Sony raised the PS5 pricing back in August, here in the US, by $50, from its $500 launch pricing. So if you don’t already own a PS5, PS5 Digital, PS5 Pro, or a PS Portal player, you should move post haste, as the prices are going up next month, which is right around the corner.
As with nearly every area of consumer technology, Sony, along with others are passing down the rising costs of US-based tariffs and the global component shortage. So until these factors improve, this is likely only the beginning of price increases for consumers globally.
