Yesterday, during an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed Apple’s upcoming price increase. Cook said, ‘Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.’ ‘There’s less supply at a time when consumers want devices and the memory guys are passing along huge price increases.’
As the RAM shortage is affecting all things technology, even Apple isn’t immune. And in case you didn’t know what the culprit behind it is: AI. Many AI companies require massive amounts of memory for their data centers, to the point that suppliers can’t keep up. In turn, this has led to rising costs for laptops and gaming consoles, mostly, but also for smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
While cheaper base-model Apple computers and laptops have already been discontinued, Cook didn’t address how soon consumers will see price increases go live. However, we’re only a few months away from the company’s iPhone 18 launch, and we may see it take effect then or with products coming a month or two afterward.
