This is the last of the network giants throwing their hat into the streaming ring. We knew it was coming but yesterday, at their press conference, we a lot of the details on NBC/Universal’s Peacock streaming service.
So Peacock will consist of all things NBC + Universal in regards to content & programming. They’re promising over 7,500 hours of content at launch which is good; almost to the amount HBO Max will offer – almost.
- The service will arrive on April 15th for all Comcast Xfinity X1 + Flex subscribers while everyone else will have to wait until July 15th.
- Peacock will offer 3 tiers in total w/ a free one w/ ads, a premium one w/ ads for $5 per month, and a premium one ad-free for $10 per month. The free version will included next-day access of current seasons of shows, older shows/movies, and access to select exclusive content. While the premium version will offer everything the free tier has and add live sports including non-televised Premier League Soccer starting in August.
- They’re looking to have several pieces of original content by or around launch. Titles like a new take on Battlestar Galactica, a Punky Brewster follow-up series, a Saved By The Bell reboot w/ some of the original cast, a Syfy-based show called a Brave New World, and a show from Telemundo called Armas De Mujer.
FYI: fan-favorite The Office ain’t coming until 2021 after their Netflix deal ends.
So this sounds like a smaller version of Hulu for just NBC content – which is fine. But when you’re vying for people’s content and $$, this is might be a hard sell for some. Especially when many of their shows will still remain on Hulu.
Do you plan on subscribing to this? Is this one service too many? Sound off.
