OnePlus definitely wanted everyone to know that their upcoming flagship will tout a fast 120Hz refresh rate on their display. Yesterday on Twitter, OnePlus head Pete Lau took to Twitter to demo what scrolling will look like on their 120Hz displays coming this year.
As you can see above, they put their 120Hz display against an Android device w/ a standard 60Hz display so you can really see the difference. They’re also using a custom MEMC chip to push 30fps video up to 120 to take complete advantage of the new Fluid Display. We’re expecting to see this on the OnePlus 8 which will offer Verizon carrier support this year as well.
It is welcome addition despite being a subtle feature. But once you see it, you won’t want to go back to anything else. OnePlus already utilizes a 90Hz display so they’re just ahead of the class at this point. And thus far, it looks like OnePlus will have their faster fresh rate at QHD resolution as Samsung’s will be have to drop down to FHD+ to access it.
So who’s looking forward to this on your next OnePlus device?
If you’ve seen high-quality TVs, you’re no stranger to MEMC. We’ve created a custom MEMC chip that can push ordinary 30fps video up to 120, so any video gets the full advantage of our 120Hz Fluid Display. pic.twitter.com/YPD3fw5uOn
