The Yeti from Blue Microphones has been a staple for creators as well as being a top-selling USB mic. Keep in mind, the Yeti dropped back towards the end of 2009. In between that time, Blue has been releasing a lot more powerful microphones and has innovated in more technologies and features for better audio. Fast forward to October of 2019, we got a new-and-improved version of it.
Today, we’re talking about the latest from Blue Microphones: the Yeti X. This is the culmination of all that Blue has learned over the years as this offers a bit more features and specs on this one. The end results is a more powerful & useful USB mic for all. We’ve been using it off and on over the past few months and we’re ready to see if this updated model can outdo the original.
Comparing the Yeti X to the OG Yeti, there are quite the differences between the 2. The original offers 3 condenser capsules, capable of 16-bit sound, and a 2.2lbs weight while the Yeti X offers 4 condenser capsules, capable of 24-bit sound, and a 2.8lbs weight. The Yeti X adds a smart knob w/ real-time LED metering for monitoring + custom LED lighting. So outside of the lighting, pretty much most of the upgrades are internal and leads to a bit more heft in the newer package.
So we mentioned the smart knob and it is a welcome addition. This allows you to monitor your levels in real-time thanks to its 11 dots to meter your voice plus view headphone volume – all from the mic itself. Along w/ that, you got custom LED lighting to choose the color scheme you want the Yeti X to omit while in use. All of this and you still have access to the 4 patterns of cardioid, omni, bi-directional and stereo as well as a high-pass filter, de-esser, compressor, limiter, & more. I think the end results lead to some great audio quality from this thing. Especially being a USB mic, I think many will appreciate it.
Looks the same at 1st glance but the Yeti X has a lot more to offer than its predecessor.
Armed w/ all of the right stuff to equip the Yeti X for the needs of the many, Blue Mics continues the tradition of the Yeti being the must-buy USB mic. All while retaining what made it great to begin with. Blue is making their audio products for all creators: from game streamers to podcasters to YouTubers. Priced at $170, the Yeti X gives you a lot more here than any other Blue USB mic – in regards to audio & useful features. So if you’re looking to get started within the creative space, this or another one of Blue Mics should be at the top of your list to consider.
