After being quite quiet for some time after announcing it, Sony finally dropped the specs on their upcoming PS5 gaming console. The timing is perfect as Microsoft just dropped a bunch more details on their console on Monday. We got the full specs of the internals although we still have no idea of what it will look like.
So, on to the internal details below.
The 8-core AMD Zen CPU and 2.23GHz GPU will perform up to 10.28 teraflops of data. So the biggest change outside of the updated chips is the change to SSD storage. This will help bring forth faster load times in these games that take up massive sizes. The new console will also support USB hard drives for backward compatible PS4 games but won’t be as fast as the internal SSD.
It will finally have a 4K Blu-Ray drive which is silly as they own Blu-Rays but better late than never. Also the drive will support game discs for installation as well. You’ll also have 3D audio and Dolby Atmos, ray-tracing, gaming in 4K @120fps, and can play almost all of the 100 popular PS4 titles.
When you compare the PS5 vs the Xbox Series X spec sheet, it looks like Sony’s console is a bit underpowered – for once. Sony is usually pushing the big power out of the 2. We’ll see how it will turn when they both go on sale for the holidays.
Which one do you plan on picking up?
