The past Sunday, various outlets showed off a wrapped version of Mercedes Benz 1st electric vehicle beyond a concept and going on sale w/ their EQS luxury sedan. Yesterday, they unwrapped to show their vehicle off in totality and it’s the perfect time to show/talk about it.
This is Mercedes' vision of an EV S-class.
For starters, you got a 2-tone paint job on the model in the press images a la Maybach S-Class. You got a sloped-down look on the front/back that is reminiscent of the MB CLS. There’s a digital front grille, retractable door handles w/ doors that can automatically open/close. Unfortunately, there is no access to under the hood so no front trunk/frunk like Tesla & others offer.
On the interior, there’s their patented Hyperscreen which is a 56inch touchscreen that is powered by their MBUX infotainment system. It is broken up into 3 sections of the driver, center console, & passenger. It is powered by 8 CPU cores, 24GB of RAM, & 46.8GB RAM memory bandwidth. It offers voice control via the app and the HUD utilizes AR to show off 3D arrows for navigation.
Now for the part you wanted to know about it, under the hood + performance. So for starters, it has liquid-cooling via an aluminum battery that preheats or cools to speed charging. They offer regenerative braking which we’ve seen in Tesla & others. It can go from 0-60MPH in 4.1 seconds w/ a top speed of 130MPH.
You got a few configurations to choose from as well w/ 90 kWh or a 107.8 kWh battery which offers a great range of up to 478.5 miles. You got a single motor option w/ 329 HP w/ RWD (EQS 450+) or a dual motor option w/ 515HP w/ AWD (EQS 580 4MATIC). And last but not least, you got 4 different driving modes: eco, comfort, sport, & individual.
The 2022 EQS luxury sedan is due out later this fall as pricing will be revealed at a later time. Being a high-end Benz, I wouldn’t expect this to be priced under $100K. What’re your thoughts on Benz’s true EV outing?
