Samsung now offers not one but two foldable phablet phones in addition to its Galaxy Z Flip phones. Meet the $1,900 Galaxy Z Fold 8, a new short and wide design with a familiar name, and the $2,100 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the tall and narrow style we’re all accustomed to, but it starts at $100 more.
Both foldables include Samsung’s new Flex Titanium technology for a tougher display and a less visible crease; are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip fine-tuned for Galaxy flagship phones with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage; offer IP48 water-resistant bodies; ship with Android 17 with One UI 9; and support both physical SIMs and eSIMs.
The new Z Fold 8 has a new form factor that mirrors that of Google’s original Pixel Fold and is dubbed the world’s lightest foldable at 201 grams. Get used to this form factor, as this is what Apple’s upcoming foldable could look like.
Its screen also has an anti-reflective coating and a 4:3 aspect ratio for viewing media and reading. More specifically, it has a 5.5-inch AMOLED cover screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which opens up to a 7.6-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and can get up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.
The Z Fold 8 has only two rear sensors, featuring a 50MP main wide sensor with autofocus and OIS and a 50MP ultrawide with autofocus capable of up to 10x digital zoom. This wider model can also record up to 4K@60fps video and also features two 10MP selfie cameras, with one on the cover and the other on the inner screen. And lastly, it’s equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery with both faster wired and wireless charging. It will arrive in Lavender, Graphite, Cream, and Pistachio (a Samsung online exclusive) color options.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the premium successor to the previous generation. Although it heavily resembles its predecessors, Samsung made several noteworthy upgrades under the surface. This includes an updated hinge design for even easier opening and closing, a tougher and brighter screen, an updated chip, a higher-resolution ultrawide camera, and a larger battery.
It’s armed with a 6.5-inch 120Hz AMOLED cover screen that opens up to an 8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, which can get up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Regarding its shooters, the Z Fold 8 Ultra has a 200MP wide main sensor with OIS, an upgraded 50MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto with OIS, capable of 3x optical zoom and 30x space zoom. And like previous Samsung flagships, it can record up to 8K video at 30 fps. It also features two 10MP selfie cameras, with one on the cover and the other on the inner screen. And finally, a slightly larger 5,000 mAh battery with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. The Z Fold 8 Ultra comes in Violet Shadow, Graphite, Cream, and Green Shadow (a Samsung online exclusive).
Pre-orders went live when Samsung announced the Unpacked date, but you can still reserve your desired version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and they’re expected to go on sale in the coming weeks.
