After years of sitting on the sidelines for a while, Google looks like they’re ready to start making their own hardware. Google has already started slowly w/ Chromecast, Chromebook Pixel, Pixel C, and the upcoming Google Home. Looks like Google will start making their own Android Wear smartwatches.
The folks over at Android Police has been on a roll over the past few weeks w/ new details on all that Google is cooking up. Google apparently has been working on 2 smartwatches w/ the codenames Angelfish & Swordfish. The Angelfish will offer a size within the 42mm & 46mm size w/ 3-buttons, LTE connectivity, built-in GPS, and a heart-rate monitor. It is said to resemble a mesh of the Moto 360 & LG Watch Urbane. While the Swordfish, you have a smaller smartwatch that will ditch the GPS & LTE radios (possibly the heart-rate monitor) w/ a design similar to the Pebble Time Round. It will only have a one button setup w/ a 42mm size.
Both devices will be powered by Android Wear 2,0 as well as Google’s Assistant. They may arrive in the fall along w/ the new Nexus devices. These may actually launch as Nexus smartwatches. Makes sense as 3rd-party companies are running to make new Android Wear watches. Samsung is all about Tizen, Moto just did the 360 Sport, and HTC doesn’t look like they’ll be joining the wearable movement.
