The Wi-Fi Alliance has new spec of Wi-Fi technology called Wi-Fi Direct. Wi-Fi Direct will let devices such as mobile phones, cameras, printers, laptops, keyboards and headphones to connect with one another directly without the need for a nearby Wi-Fi hotspot. This new spec will still be limited to 100 meters and data transfer speeds. Existing devices should be able to upgrade with a software update and they expect to launch sometime in the middle of 2010.
