MoviePass is the first real movie subscription that has become a household name – for the most part. While there are other movie subscription companies popping up afterwards, there hasn’t really been a real competitor. Yesterday, that all changed.
Say hello to AMC Stubs A-List: a direct competitor to MoviePass from AMC Theaters themselves. This will act as an extension of their member loyalty program that will also be online + smartphone-based. This will allow you to watch up to 3 movies per week & see the same movie more than once. You will be able to use this towards IMAX, 3D, and Dine-In theaters as well as make up to 3 reservations at once in advance w/o physically being there. Did we mention you would get a discount at the concession stand for food & drinks? Yeah, you can do that too.
The AMC Stubs membership will also include the benefits of Stubs Premiere w/ free upgrades on popcorn/soda, free refills on large popcorn, and express service at the box office + concession line to nae a few.
So you get all of this for $20 per month – which is double what MoviePass costs. But for the premium, you get way more perks & less restrictions when using the service. I’m not surprised at AMC & MoviePass have been beefing a bit lately. With everyone being petty, this was next move for AMC to pull against them.
The Stubs A-List service will kick off next week on the 26th. So who’s cancelling their MoviePass or looking to give this movie subscription plan a try?
