While the unveiling of the Galaxy S6 by Samsung is right around the corner, there are many of you still locked into contracts or payments plans w/ your S5.  In other words, some of you aren't going anywhere.  There's no reason why you should have enough battery power on the go.

Our friends over at TYLT has quite the solution for you w/ their Sliding Power Case which is part of their Energi family of products.  Similar to the one we reviewed for the iPhone 5/5S, this is a bit different in the look of it.  We're gonna get into how it is using it along w/ how good or how bad the battery pack is.  Let's go.

Design/Build

Like the one for the iPhone, this is a 2-in-1 case w/ a protective case that slides into a battery case.  This is comprised of a polycarbonate dual-layer inner case that exposes the charging port, camera lens + LED flash/heart-rate monitor, IR blaster, audio jack, and rear speaker.  There's even a place to put your waterproof USB flap as well.

Beware of the bulk.

While the outer case is also made of a polycarbonate material and adds a bit of bulk to your Galaxy S5. It does have a LED light as an battery life indicator that shows you the power status of your battery case.  Blinking Red for no battery left, Red for low battery, Blue for the battery being half full, and Green for a full battery.  Similar to other TYLT products.

Battery Life

Inside of the battery pack lies a 2800 mAh battery.  Which is the exact same size battery inside of the GS5.  TYLT touts that it adds 11 hours of extra talk time to your GS5.  As it doesn't disrupt the device's NFC abilities as well.

The pack can completely charge your GS5 in 2 to 3 hours depending on where your battery life is.  It can take several hours to charge the actual battery pack to full power as well.  For those of you unfamiliar w/ battery cases, you can charge your phone while charging the pack.

Nice case but you'll have to choose between this or just keeping a spare battery.

TG 2 Cents

The inner case of this Energi Power Case does a better job at protecting the overall device than the one for the iPhone 5/5S did.  While it will keep your S5 juiced, it does add a lot of bulk to it.  You're gonna have to decide if you w/ or against the bulk.  If so, this will hold you down.  If not, you might want to look into a separate battery pack then.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

TYLT's Energi Power Case for the GS5 works as its supposed to and works well.  But for $79.99, you're gonna have to debate about buying this battery pack w/ the same size of the built-in battery or just get a spare battery. Especially when the latter is cheaper.
