daydream-viewWhile we didn’t get too much info or an actual look at Google’s Daydream VR when it teased at I/O in the summer, we got all of the blanks filled out today.  It is officially called the Daydream View headset as the platform is called Daydream VR.  It is super lightweight as it only weighs in at 220 grams.  It is constructed of foam & soft plastic on a hinged plastic frame to connect your Android smartphone.

Consider Daydream View a more premium take on Google Cardboard.

The Daydream controller will allow you to navigate through your content/games.  It has a clickable trackpad, volume buttons, and internal sensors that can detect motion.  The controller is small enough to place where your smartphone would go when you’re not using Daydream View.

In case you were wondering what kind of content will be available, Google has been busy.  They struck partnerships w/ various companies to bring forth a variety of content for launch & later this year.  You’ll have access for 360-degree YouTube content, Hulu, HBO, MLB, NBA, Netflix, and games are coming so you won’t have to worry about not having anything to watch on it.

The Daydream View will arrive sometime next month along everything else from Google today for $79.  The headset will arrive in one color, Grey, at launch and Snow & Crimson colors later this year.  It will be sold at Google’s Store, Best Buy, and Verizon retailers.
