Siri leadAccording to the latest report from Bloomberg, Apple is looking to step up their efforts in artificial intelligence for their upcoming iPhones.  This would arrive in the form of its own dedicated AI chipped dubbed the Apple Neural Engine to power related tasks on their mobile devices.

This would power AI-related tasks utilizing algorithms for facial/speech recognition and augmented reality.  By doing this, the new chip could potentially improve your iPhone’s battery life and overall performance.  As terrible as iPhone batteries are, any boost would be a welcome improvement.

Since the report is pretty recent, I’m doubtful the new Neural Engine chip will arrive on the iPhone 8.  Maybe the iPhone 8S or whatever it will be called.  Apple has allegedly already started testing it on iPhone prototypes.  So as Apple is prepping their new future of AR & AI, moving the processing away from their A-line CPU, GPU & co-motion chipsets.

Apple is definitely looking to better compete w/ Amazon & Google’s AI + machine learning efforts.  Word has it that they’re eyeing augmented reality as well as beefing up their meager efforts w/ Siri.

But hey if it would save battery life on iPhones, not sure if many would be against it.
