AT&T definitely plans to play catch up with the rest of the carriers by beefing up their Android lineup. Earlier this morning, AT&T announced five different Android smartphones all coming sometime before 2011 ends. Two of the five will be 4G HSPA+ devices while the rest will be entry to mid level Android device with your standard 3G. Adding the Motorola Atrix 2, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung DoubleTime, Pantech Pocket, and AT&T Avail brings the carrier up to now 19 Android devices in total for the year. More below.
The Motorola Atrix 2 will match the same specs that were leaked a few weeks ago as it will offer:
- 1GHz dual-core processor
- 4.3inch qHD display w/ 960 x 540 resolution
- 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage
- Android 2.3
- front-facing & 8MP rear-facing cameras w/ LED flash + 1080p HD video capture
- Lapdock 100 accessory
- Enterprise support
- 4G HSPA+ up to 21Mbps
The Samsung Captivate Glide offers the similar specs to the Galaxy S II but not as fast of course with:
- 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
- Full QWERTY keyboard
- 4inch Super AMOLED display w/ 800 x 480 resolution
- 1GB of RAM, 1GB of internal storage, 8GB microSD card included
- Android 2.3 w/ TouchWiz UI
- 1.3MP front-facing & 8MP rear-facing w/ auto-focus + 1080p HD video capture
- Enterprise support
- 4G HSPA + up to 21Mbps
The Samsung DoubleTime offers an entry-level approach to Android on your basic texting phone offering:
- 600MHz processor
- Flip-out keyboard QWERTY keyboard
- 3.2inch touchscreen display
- 680MB of memory
- Android 2.2
- 3.2MP camera
The Pantech Pocket brings on a square-like shaped mid-level Android device offering:
- 4inch display w/ 800 x 600 resolution
- 2.5GB of internal storage
- Android 2.3
- 5MP camera w/ flash + HD video capture
Last but not least is the AT&T Avail, made by ZTE as an Android pre-paid device offering:
- 3.5inch display touchscreen
- 512MB of RAM, 512MB of internal storage
- Android 2.3
- 5MP camera w/ video recorder
The only device with more details is the Motorola Atrix 2, coming on October 16th for $99.99 w/ two-year contract.
