T-Mobile announced this evening that they have enlisted Nokia Seimens & Ericsson to help build their 4G LTE network. Their plans to bring an even faster HSPA+ and LTE networks are all thanks to the botched AT&T merger that provided T-Mo with additional spectrum. Included with that spectrum is the ability to launch their HSPA+ network using the 1900MHz band, which kept the carrier and AT&T devices from being compatible in anything other than EDGE as T-Mo is one of the few carriers globally to use the 1700MHz band which their entire network is built upon. Basically this makes an AT&T iPhone able to run HSPA+ on T-Mo’s network.
T-Mobile’s LTE network is scheduled for a launch sometime in 2013 and their 4G HSPA+ in the 1900MHz band is expected to become available within the bigger markets by the end of the year. Just in time to support the forthcoming iPhone on the way. Possibly. Also starting today more markets will be able to experience the carrier’s HSPA+42Mbps network.
