At this year’s Google I/O developer’s conference, the search giant unveiled their newest version of Android (v4.1 Jelly Bean) along with their first Nexus tablet crafted by ASUS. Google & select retailers are having a hard time keeping these things in stock, but I was able to acquire the 7inch Nexus 7 which is available in two storage sizes of 8GB for $199 and 16GB for $249 (I got the 16GB model). After spending less than 24 hours with the tablet, I wanted to share my initial thoughts on the Google’s flagship tablet. Read on below.
- Although it has a more affordable price point, the Nexus 7 still has a premium feel/build to it. A nice, leather-like material that makes it easy to grip/hold.
- The IPS HD display w/ 1280 x 800 resolution looks great as it offers great viewing angles too. It doesn’t beat Super AMOLED or the iPad’s Retina Display but nothing wrong with a bronze medal.
- The quad-core processor & 12-core GPU makes gaming and HD media streaming a flawless process.
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean w/ Project Butter makes for the smoothest and fastest Android experience in the OS’ history.
- Google Now performs fast & accurately. This service is not to be confused with a Siri-like gimmick but it essentially works in the same manner.
- An ideal-sized, lightweight & thin tablet with no performance issues…thus far.
Expect to see a full review on the tablet on the site in the very near future. Now to hunt for some good tablet apps for this thing in the meantime. Stay tuned.
