This morning while attending Samsung’s launch of the newest tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, we were able to spend some alone time with it.  Being announced earlier this year and then delayed to add the more powerful processor along with a few other treats for consumers, starting tomorrow it is available for purchase.  Samsung decided to put some features from the 5.3inch Galaxy Note, the Galaxy S III, and some of brand new ideas into this 10.1inch tablet.   My initial thoughts on the device and its abilities lies below.

Up close with the display & the new S-Pen
  • At 10.1inches, the new Note isn’t heavy.   Its weight can make for single-handed operation if not made awkward in certain apps.
  • Samsung didn’t use their signature Super AMOLED display but the 1280 x 800 LCD looks good.   It is actually brighter & more vibrant colors compared to the Nexus 7.
  • Thus far, no lag in my usage of it.  Even using the dual screens, no hiccups occurred.  Chalk that up to the quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, & Ice Cream Sandwich.  Hopefully that won’t change for the full review.
  • The new S-Pen has been redesigned to perform like a real pen rather than a stylus.  The Note 10.1 reacts to the amount of pressure used when writing/drawing.  Gives it a more natural feel and is much better than on the Note smartphone.
  • Feels like a more useful tablet rather than just for browsing, gaming, & content.

Spent almost 5 minutes trying relive my old art days

The TGSB full review is on the way real soon.
