Earlier this morning, Barnes & Noble announced their successors to their Nook tablet lineup with the Nook HD and the Nook HD+.  Not looking get outdone by Amazon and its recently announced Kindle Fire HD tablets, B&N is back for battle.   B&N seeks to beef up their specs along with their content & services with these new Nooks.

Barnes & Noble made sure to match the upgraded hardware with newer software as well.  They have redone the UI to display a recently used apps carousel along with the option to view your apps/library, go on the web, and download more content from the Nook store.  They have added the option of multiple users for one tablet along with an individual login & content.  Nook now has their own video store with Nook Video that offers content from HBO, Starz, Disney, & Warner Bros.   Nook owners can now enjoy catalog from their favorite retailers w/ Nook catalog where you can tap an item to save or buy it from your tablet.   They also added UltraViolet support, redesigned the Nook store, enhanced the email, and improved the way you read newspapers on your Nook.   And now on to the hardware.

The Nook HD offers a 7inch display w/ 1440 x 900 resolution@243ppi, powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor, 1GB of RAM, 9 to 10-hour battery life, SRS TruMedia speakers, microSD card slot for up to 32GB of storage, HDMI port, priced at $199 for the 8GB and $229 for the 16GB model.   You can pre-order yours here.

The Nook HD+ offers a 9inch display w/ 1920 x 1280 resolution@256ppi, powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor, 1GB of RAM, 9 to 10-hour battery life, SRS TruMedia speakers, microSD card slot for up to 32GB of storage, HDMI port, priced at $269 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB model.  You can pre-order yours here.

Both tablets will be available in late October for those who reserved theirs and in stores early November.
