Earlier today, Microsoft invited us down to their Windows 8 launch event in NYC. I’ll be the first to tell you that I was really impressed with all of the Windows 8 PCs along with the Surface tablet. Windows is back! Running Windows RT, a modified version of Windows 8, the Surface tablet some interesting tech nonetheless. More details of my first encounter lie below.
The magnets that keep the Cover(s) connected to the Surface |
- The hardware is crafted quite beautifully on the Surface. Definitely lighter than what you would expect a 10.6inch tablet would feel. The NVIDIA processor gave me a speedy experience using the new Windows OS/interface. One of the very few tablets out there with a full-sized USB port and support for microSDXC cards.
- Windows RT works beautifully on the Surface. The UI is gesture-based that provides great multitasking for productivity and fun. Looking forward to dive deeper into it for the full review.
- We also played with the two keyboard covers: the Touch & Type. The Touch cover provide a felt-like feel where there are no movable keys. It works by touch not as a button you press down on. While Type cover is a slightly thicker one with actual keys for power users like students & journalists where you will be doing a lot of typing and provides a more natural feel.
Thin enough to not feel drastically huge |
For those of you who didn’t pre-order one, you can pick one up from one of the many Microsoft Stores that have popped up. As seen on Twitter, the lines for the Surface are quite long as they just went on sale after midnight tonight. Check out our hands-on video with the new tablet by Microsoft.
