An added surprise to the Galaxy Note II event was seeing the soon-to-be ready Galaxy Camera by Samsung.  I was definitely excited to handle the company’s first Android-based point-and-shoot digital camera.   Coming in the near future with a cellular connection provided by AT&T, there is more to the Galaxy Camera than meets the eye.   Lets delve into some first impressions, shall we?

  • The Galaxy Camera is lightweight but not cheaply made at all.
  • Having Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth radios inside; there are multiple ways of sharing photos as well as sending them to various cloud storage services within the Google Play Store.
  • 4.7inch HD Super Clear (not AMOLED) display looks good enough for viewing your finished products.
  • Even in a crowded & noisy space, voice controls worked pretty well.  You can tell the camera zoom, set a timer, or even to take a photo.
  • Samsung’s Android-powered shooter offers great specs for a high-end point-and-shoot like a 23mm wide-angle 16.1MP lens w/ backside illuminated sensor, 21x optical zoom, pop-up flash, and grip for single-handed operation.
  • The Galaxy Camera is running Android’s most recent OS, 4.1, and offers Google Now along with other Jelly Bean features on a dedicated camera.  Where the hardware on the camera stops, the software takes over by adding some cool features like Silhouette, Light Trace, & Sports Capture to name a few.    You can also adjust the aperture, ISO, shutter speed, as well as record HD videos in slow motion.
Here’s an actual photo taken with the Galaxy Camera

Easy to use and great performance.  While no official launch details has been confirmed other than AT&T being the cellular provider.   We just have to wait patiently for more details.  Hopefully Samsung makes this upcoming holiday season.  So far so good but seeking to explore more of its abilities with a full review in the near future.
