According to the Apple specialists over at iMore, they have been privy to more details on Apple’s new iOS phones & tablets.  Now everyone knows to expect Apple to unveil the iPhone 5S, 5th-genration iPad, and 2nd-generation iPad mini.  Apple is plotting to announce the new 2013 iPads as early as April and the iPhone 5S announcement in August.  More details on the matter lies below.

As far as the new iPads:

  • The 5th-gen 9.7inch iPad will remain the same other a slight spec bump and a new slimmer, thinner casing to match that of the iPad mini.
  • The 2nd-gen 7.9inch iPad mini may or may not get the Retina treatment just yet.  Boosted specs are on the way.  They may follow the path of the bigger iPad and go Retina with the 3rd-gen.

I just hope Apple doesn’t offer the 2nd-gen earlier in the year and then the Retina 3rd-gen later in the year.  You will just piss off consumers.

As far as the iPhone 5S:

  • Expect the same body of the iPhone 5, more or less, but a faster processor and better optics.
  • Any big changes (hardware + software) will be saved for the iPhone 6 of course.

Hopefully iOS can be tweaked or add some noteworthy new features to breathe some life into the aging OS.  I haven’t been shy about my view on iOS.   The software is seriously lacking behind Apple’s hardware as it needs to be the core to next year’s changes.   Alas, there’s always the iWatch to shift the mood of consumers.
