Yesterday morning, LG announced their newest flagship Android device with the Optimus G Pro for AT&T.  Last night, we attended their Share The Genius launch party w/ a performance by Australian band Atlas Genius.   Other than the usuals of networking, sharing laughs w/ colleagues, and enjoying the entire ambience of the event.  We were able to spend some time with LG’s latest and possibly greatest Android device thus far.  Read past the break for our initial impressions on it.

  • The new Optimus has a simple design of a plastic body and aluminum trimming for a lightweight and pocketable finish.  It’s a big body device but not massively uncomfortable.  It’s a more narrow body compared to the Note II that’s better suited for single-handed operation.
  • LG continues to do great in this area of expertise: the screen display.  The 5.5inch 1080p HD IPS screen may best that of the HTC One.  Sharp, crisp images with super-accurate color reproduction.
  • The internal processor & RAM made it a lightning fast experience during our testing of swiping through screen and opening/running multiple apps.
  • LG new UI is a very sleek and light one.  Not a carbon copy of TouchWiz as it once was.  Just a simple look to call their own.
  • For those of you who love to tweak the hell out of your Android, you’re gonna love this one.  If you don’t like an icon, you can take a pic or grab an image from the gallery and create your own.
  • The default browser comes equipped with its own Share menu bar that allows you easily send the webpage to friends via app, Facebook, email, text, & more.
  • QSlide is am unchained approach to multitasking. You can add up to two apps onto the screen to for more productivity.  You can have the Calculator & Calendar app open while within the browser and control the size and transparency.  Nice touch.
  • The dual recording video feature worked the same as on the Galaxy S4, where you use both cameras to record and can easily switch back & forth.
  • I love how the Home button doubles as your notification light.  It glows in different colors depending on what type of notification you have coming in.  Its almost completely customizable.
  • Wasn’t able to really test the 13MP camera, wireless charging, or the 3140 mAh battery but will hopefully do so in the full review.

With this device, it’s mostly about the software which seems to be the underlining theme for the year thus far.  Very impressed by what I’ve seen thus far.  The new Optimus was originally launched overseas first in February and will makes its way to AT&T subscribers next week.
