Although Microsoft announced the Xbox One and provided some additional details  there were still many plaguing questions in regards to game-sharing, always-on internet connection, & privacy.  They were kind enough to go into more details to put many of these issues to bed.  Let’s dive into it shall we?

  • For starters, the Xbox One will need to connect to the Internet every 24 hours for games to work.  Offline gaming wouldn’t work after that amount of time has past.  Hourly internet check are required to access digital libraries on other consoles.  Blu-Ray, DVDs, & Live TV won’t need to check in and will operate fine offline.
  • Next up, you WILL be able to trade-in & resell games.  Since the One install games, you have the option to buy the game disc or purchase/download online from Xbox Live.  Online games will be available on the same day as physical media, so no waiting to download.
  • You can share access to your games + content to up to 10 members of your family on a single console.   This works when bringing a game over to a friend’s house.  You will have access to that game along with other games attached to your profile.   Friends can borrow your games too just as long as they have been on your friend’s list for over 30 days. Plus your profile can accessed simultaneously, you could be playing your games by a friends house while your family can still play your games too at the same time.  Nice!
  • Finally, Microsoft lets us know that the new Kinect will not be their all-seeing eye.  You still have control over what the sensor sees/hears.  If you don’t want it tracking you while watching TV or movies, you can pause the Kinect.  When the One is off, the Kinect is only listening for that one command: “Xbox On” and that’s it.  No secret recording or other forms of spying so if you find that they are – sue them.

There you have it.  I hope some of you can sleep better or decide to buy one now.
