Fresh off the announcement of their most recent living room solution that is the Chromecast, Google is  far from finished.  Apparently the company is still working on ways to better penetrate the media-streaming market.  During this past CES in January, former Android head Andy Rubin demoed another streaming set top box to a small group of partners according to the sources over at the Wall Street Journal.

This could be the next-generation of Google TV.

Rubin’s Roku-like offering many features like running Android apps/games, streaming YouTube + Google Play Movie content, and access services like Netflix & Pandora.  The stand out feature would be the ability to use Google’s video-conferencing Hangouts.  The box was to be armed with a video camera & motion sensor to pull it off.   This new box was set to be unveiled at Google I/O in May but that obviously didn’t happen.   No word on whether Google will scrap it or announce it perhaps alongside the new Nexus devices & Android OS.

This is just one of many of Google’s media-streaming solutions.  They released the Nexus Q last year to be the hub of at home entertainment but it was ultimately scrapped.  The company still has many Google TV boxes and partners and now pushing their latest dongle to help better connect content/media from your devices to your TV.  The concept definitely sounds intriguing.  We’ll keep an ear out in case more details about this comes out.
