As the leaks and previous rumors were dead on, we got 2 new iPhones in 2 different sizes. A 4.7inch w/ the iPhone 6 and a 5.5inch w/ the iPhone 6 Plus. None of that iPhone 5S and 5C BS from last year. The i6 is 6.8mm thick and the i6 Plus is 7.1mm thick. Both of them super-thin.
Both of them will be powered by Apple’s latest 64-bit A8 CPU. Smaller than the A7 but still allows for 20% faster processes and 50% faster graphics. Allowing for you to get closer to console-like graphics + performance on your smartphone. Apple bumps up the screen to Retina HD LCD displays w/ Ion-strengthened glass (no mention of sapphire at all). The 4.7inch will have a 1334 x 750 resolution while the 5.5inch will have 1920 x 1080 (that’s right full HD on an iPhone finally).
Believe it or not, you’ll probably want to buy the bigger iPhone 6 Plus.
The cameras will have phase detection auto-focus (what Sony uses in their mirrorless cameras) for even faster focus when shooting. The A8 CPU has a built-in image signal processor for faster processing/rending as well. Both versions of the iPhone 6 will have a f/2.2 8MP iSight camera sensor w/ dual True Tone flash. The i6 will have digital image stabilization while the i6 Plus will have true optical image stabilization to help w/ shakiness. You can now shoot video in 1080p at 30fps or 60fps and slow motion video at either 120fps or 240 fps. On the front-side of things, there’s a new FaceTime HD camera w/ a f/2.2 sensor that supports burst selfies and single-shot HDR photos.
Both will ship running iOS 8 of course. The i6 Plus will have its own UI allowing you to horizontal to get a 2-pane display (similar to the iPad but smaller). New gestures like double-tapping the Home button will allow the whatever you’re viewing to slide down to reach the onscreen buttons better. Think of it as one-handed mode of sorts.
Bigger phones mean bigger batteries.
The iPhone 6 is said to offer 14 hours of talk time while i6 Plus will get you 24 hours of talk time. Wi-Fi and LTE browsing will warrant different results. Bottom line is that the 5.5inch has the better battery of the 2. Both versions of the iPhone 6 will support VoLTE as we mentioned previously. 3x faster Wi-Fi w/ a now ac chip inside. This will also help w/ native Wi-Fi calling as it will also be supported.
The iPhone 6 will start at $199 on contract for a 16GB while the iPhone 6 Plus will start at $299 for a 16GB model. Gone are the 32GB size as its now 16GB, 32GB, and 128GB w/ the price point getting higher by $100. Pre-orders starts on the 12th as they will become available on the 19th. This makes the iPhone 5S now $99 on contract and the 8GB 5C free on contract.
