The thing about expectations is that sometime you can be surprised or let down. Today Apple finally revealed their entrance into the wearable market w/ the Apple Watch. Though not as pretty as some would have liked, we now see it.
It looks like something Samsung would have came out with design-wise.
It has a square face w/ rounded edges and straps can be swapped out. It looks about as small as the Pebble Steel – so its not a big face on your wrist. It has a sapphire display, a small speaker, and a taptic engine that can sense force and know the difference between a tap and a press. It has 4 LEDs to read your hear rate and a built in gyroscope but relies on your iPhone for a GPS signal though. It has a MagSafe charger but supports wireless charging as well.
In regards tot he UI, they didn’t just shrink iOS and put it on your wrist. Its homescreen is a bunch of apps in the form of dots. It has it own UI. It supports pinch-to-zoom via its dial called the Crown. But it is a touchscreen display as you can swipe through glances of apps. Its voice actions will be powered by Siri (not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing). It will help you search, respond to iMessages, etc.
The Apple Watch will obviously support iPhones only and will starts at $349 for the watch and $99 for the bands. It will arrive in 2 different sizes, 3 different finishes (Standard, Sport, & Edition), and multiple bands. It will become available in early 2015.
