Next up from the Double Exposure event is their official selfie phone w/ the Desire Eye. As we spoke about it before, the Eye is now official. Pretty much lining up to what we told you before.
The Desire Eye sports a 5.2inch 1080p display, powered by a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 13MP front-facing camera w/ a dual LED flash and a 13MP rear-facing camera w/ a dual LED flash, and a 2400 mAh battery. The new Eye will ship w/ the new Eye camera software including the newly updated Zoe app as well.
High-end phone w/ a mid-range body from HTC.
The Eye has a plastic unibody IPX7 water-resistant body that’s good for 30 minutes underwater w/ no damage. The plastic unibody is a different approach as many of their non-metal flagship were mid-range or never made it to the US. Its a lot less slippery than the all-metal unibody design of the M7 or M8.
During our brief testing of it, this appears to be a standard 13MP sensor. Not turning heads in low-light tech event environments that we’re used to. There was some noticeable grain that I wouldn’t expect to see from a front-facing 13MP selfie camera but more real-world testing will be a necessity.
The Desire Eye will be an AT&T exclusive arriving later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced as of yet.
