We told you it was coming and it is now here.  Meet Fi: Google’s creative way to offer wireless service.  And it’s everything that we told you about but now w/ even more details of course.  It is currently in early access program as you will need an invite and a nexus 6 to utilize it.

Google’s vision for a wireless networks looks very appealing.

Fi’s focus is simple: offer faster connections, work across networks and a simple service experience.  It will utilize a combination of Sprint, T-Mobile, and Wi-Fi to give you the best service.  It will allow you transition between Wi-Fi and cellular seamlessly while on the phone.  Speaking of phone, your Fi phone number will exist in the cloud to be used w/ any phone, tablet, or laptop like Google Voice.  The Hangouts app will be used to send/receive calls and texts.

Now on to price points.  For $20 monthly you get a basic tier of service which offers unlimited talk, text, Wi-Fi tethering, and international texting.  You would add $10 for every 1GB of cellular data so 5GB will only cost you around $70. Whatever data you don’t use gets credited to your next month’s bill.  Don’t look for an unlimited data plan as they don’t offer but w/ pay-as-you-go data, you’ll get alerts whenever you approach the allotted data you paid for.

While you can port your current number over, don’t expect Google to pay off your ETFs for you though.  No family plans or contracts to sign.  Again Fi only works for the Nexus 6 and will require a special SIM card to access multiple networks.  For those of you interested, can sign up below.
