Earlier today, Google made Android Pay official. As in the rollout for people to actually use it starts today. It is currently in the form of the Google Wallet app but will soon transform into the Android Pay app. All you need is a device w/ NFC on board and running Android 4.4 or higher.
Like every other mobile wallet app it utilizes tokenization to masque your actually debit/credit card info from merchants. You financial info will be securely stored onto your Android device. Android Pay supports cards from American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. Citi & Wells Fargo support is set to arrive within the next few days while Capital One is coming soon.
Android Pay will be limited to tap-to-pay purchases at physical stores while the part that allows you to buy things within Android apps isn’t ready yet. It is said to arrive sometime later this year. Below is a list of stores that are ready to support Android Pay right now while more will join the party sometime later.
