Another year brings another Call Of Duty into the mix.  Last year was Sledgehammer's time and this year it is Treyarch's shot.  They are responsible for probably the fan-favorite, Black Ops II.  The question on everyone's mind is: how do you follow up w/ COD: Advanced Warfare?

Treyarch took the Black Ops series to the future w/ changes to the way they handle the campaign, choice of gender for the 1st time, and new multiplayer options.  On the surface, it looks like their version of Advanced Warfare but there is more to it than that - sort of.  We've been rocking out w/ it for a little over a week now and we're ready to tell you everything you need to know about it.

On the Black Ops III campaign, there were some changes made.  For the 1st time, you'll be able to choose your gender, not so much race though.  You have the option to choose which stage you want to conquer within campaign.  This might make it easier or turn you off in regards to wanting the complete the story mode.  If you're playing on the current-gen console (PS3 & Xbox 360), no campaign for you.  You will only have the multiplayer option.

The story starts off like a game you may have played before.  You start off in a mission that ends terribly for your character.  You get left behind during the escape of the rescue mission and cyber bots starting beating the sh*t out of you along w/ tearing off some limbs.  You wake up to cyber-soldier Christopher Meloni aka Stabler from Law & Order: SVU giving you a tutorial to how to move and combat w/ your new cybernetic limbs/abilities.  New things include hacking bots/turrets, running on walls, controlling a swarm of smaller drones and more.  The more you play, the more you earn extras to upgrade & improve your abilities.

Switching gears to the multiplayer side of things, they added a new feature into the mix w/ Specialists.  You have 9 specialists to choose from when playing w/ only 4 available at default.  Everyone's favorite is the Seraph but you have get up to class 22 to even unlock it.  Being able to slide out of the line of fire and wall-run to get the drop on your enemies on the new multiplayer maps do make for an even better & fluid experience.

And lastly on to another fan-favorite, the new Zombies mode.  Taking place in fictitious 1940s city w/ a star-studded cast including Jeff Goldlum, Ron Perlman, Heather Graham, and Neal McDonough.  They've added a mystery noir feel to it as you face waves and waves of the undead.  It is definitely not easy but a fun time for those of you who appreciate a good challenge.

BO 3 review grade

Black Ops III nails it w/ a solid multiplayer for COD this year.

On the campaign side of things, it has great abilities but after doesn't really push forward in regards to the COD series.  It's not easy to make a compelling story mode these days as most gamers are all about multiplayer.  Speaking of which, the multiplayer side of things is a great as you would expect.  Adding the new Specialists to choose from gives this one a bit of an edge.  And a full version of Zombies mode make for a more complete COD game.  So is it a good follow-up to Advanced Warfare?  Yes and no.  It's more so Treyarch's version of it but still makes for a good game.
